introducing the company

asola is a developer and manufacturer of standard solar modules and "automotive" solar systems with global operations. The company is based in Erfurt in the German state of Thuringia.

Our company was founded as ASS Automotive Solar Systems GmbH in 2001. From the outset, the managing director and company founder Reinhard Wecker has been focusing on the sun as an inexhaustible, free and, above all, environmentally-friendly energy source. We do not just concentrate on exploiting solar power, but apply it to all spheres of life. asola is one of the pioneers in the mobile use of solar energy - for example in vehicles. We are (almost) unrivalled in this field.

We started production with rented machinery and a production capacity of barely 3 megawatts in 2002. We had established a market presence in Italy four years later and had enlarged our production to 15 megawatts and relocated to Isseroda for space reasons.

A brand new manufacturing plant with a capacity of 45 megawatts is in operation now.  It incorporates the latest technical standards and innovative technologies, which are unique on the world market. The result is quality at an excellent price.

The US based company Quantum Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: QTWW) acquired a 24.9% stake in asola in May 2008 for strategic reasons. In return, we provided the relevant expertise for the company to develop a 30 megawatt manufacturing facility in the USA, and in doing so, have opened up access to the North American market. Other majority holdings in new manufacturing facilities in Italy, Korea and Morocco are currently in the development stage.
